TIPS Membrane Technology
Persalt ultrafiltration modules incorporate hollow fibers manufactured using Thermally Induced Phase Separation (TIPS).
Unlike conventional membrane-forming processes, TIPS technology produces a highly interconnected and uniform membrane structure. This construction provides excellent mechanical strength, chemical resistance, and permeability, helping the membrane withstand repeated filtration, backwashing, and chemical-cleaning cycles.
The resulting PVDF hollow fibers offer:
Persalt UF membranes provide an effective physical barrier against suspended solids, colloidal material, turbidity, bacteria, and other microorganisms.
The process produces consistently clarified water, even when incoming water quality varies. This makes ultrafiltration particularly suitable as pretreatment for reverse osmosis and nanofiltration systems, helping protect downstream membranes and reduce fouling.
Persalt supplies UF modules in different configurations to meet specific project requirements.
In outside-in filtration, feedwater passes through the hollow-fiber wall from the outside toward the inner channel. This configuration offers good tolerance for suspended solids and suits industrial water, wastewater reuse, surface-water treatment, and RO pretreatment.
Inside-out modules direct the feedwater through the internal channel of the hollow fibers. They can operate in dead-end or cross-flow mode, depending on water quality and system design.
Persalt submerged modules operate directly inside tanks and suit water clarification and membrane bioreactor applications. Their open configuration facilitates hydraulic circulation, air scouring, and solids removal.
Replacing existing UF modules does not always require replacing the complete filtration system.
Persalt offers PMUF retrofit modules designed to replace UF modules from other manufacturers, with compatible dimensions, connections, and operating configurations. PMUF™ modules feature a plug-and-play design, allowing them to replace modules from other brands without any modifications, while offering greater cost-effectiveness and identical performance.
The PersaFlux™ series offers robust ultrafiltration solutions for new projects and for installations currently operating with HYDRAcap-type modules.
The PersaFlux™ portfolio includes:
PersaFlux™ modules are designed for applications such as surface-water treatment, seawater pretreatment, industrial water reuse, and protection of downstream reverse osmosis systems.
The PersaFlux™ X does not require liquid backwashing, which is standard in the industry. This reduces capital expenditures (CAPEX) and enhances overall recovery.
